cannot remember what i shot today. i remember getting the camera out and taking about three exposures of the same thing but for my life i cant remember what it was. so to make sure i shot something i KNOW i shot, i just photographed alan being a digital tech for some big shoot for jason and also a picture of my city from the studio window. its a shot i take all the time for no great reason.
i photographed bryan today outside in the rain. also i photo'ed alan for whiskerino, but its hard to count that.
here is a shot i mentioned a few days ago
i shot alan today.
here is paul
so i cannot explain it but i really enjoy observing small, latino men with mustaches. i dont mean to emasculate them or anything, but i find them completely adorable. its sick. its weird. i know. but seriously. they [by and large] look so gentle and sweet that i just assume they are all really nice and kind, etc.
here is one from a thrift store recently
shot paul posin' hard today.
shot a few things today. i love keeping my lomo on me all the time. went thrifting and found a box of 8x10 polaroid for 5 bucks. 15 sheets, expired 1999. thanks steph for the good eyeballs.
something from christmastime. hopefully it is half as interesting as i think it is.
whatever.
i shot people in atlanta today, which includes these facts incidentally: i hung out with zack, megan, erik, steph, and john yam today
here is was a place holder for the day. good ole john yam
[edit]
shot taken today was one with steph kickin' a "Lady Bubba" cane in a gas station. i may have shot more but i dont really remember. its been a really solid day.
taylor from when we were in new york at the same time. bunch more rolls. i like this one. yep.
in a rare moment captured here is my dad and my mom in the same room at the same time. its not that they dont get along or anything, but they are in fact divorced and live over eight hundred miles away from each other and have no real incentive to see each other or chat, save my sister and i. in this case my sister was having a mastectomy and we were all four in the same room (though, my sister was mostly drugged up). per my sister's request i took no photos of her after the operation...just...i guess for the sake of noting that (?).
anyway this is our view from my sister's room at st vincent's hospital.
oh also, i shot some foters of steph today (as the shots to have taken)
so i got some shit from jason AND alan for starting this blog and then immediately posting text fillers, and i get it. it makes sense. sure. but i stand by my actions in being as minimal as possible on a vacation with my rarely-seen father and recently-surgerizer sister. but even so, i will satisfy them at least inasmuch as i am posting a foto.
talked to taylor and ended up heading over to his place for him to play a new song for me and per usual it was wonderful (i may be really biased, but i swear he is an amazing songwriter)
today's photo is my mom in new york in the rain with some rain drops and a weird scarfish thing.
thing i shot today was several portrait style things of garrett, alan, jason, and stephanie (chronologically)
Well almost all day today has been spent at the Orlando airport so there is a good chance that is what todays foto will be. I've been here since about half eleven so that's right at six hours now. My ass hurts
Unrelated note: I got some records while I was down here. Don juans wreckless daughter (joni mitchell, lovely cover but if I remember it well I don't think I'm in love with the sounds. I kind of wish it had been her album Mingus but the cover is solid and it was four bucks and gives me a good dose of nostalgia), common one (van morrison), some album by owen, and a rerelease of the 94 ep by heatmiser (elliot smiths old band before he went solo)
that's it
day five I'd say look for a portrait of the one the only kevin wilder. Kevin "van" Vance Wilder. That's right, that kevin.
Florida doesn't have too many positive points in my mind but kevin is on that list. True the list grows as I meet more people from this wretched state but these dear people haven't yet swayed my opinion.
Anyway kevin is great and rockin a solid beard. We'll see what comes out of this.
so for day four I guess look for (so many homonyms) a shot of my dad or maybe a shot of this badass auto repair center place. We'll see.
Could be working on a new project soon that I'm excited about. We'll see about that too. Either way it means I finally have to kick my own ass and finally order the prints for my folio and family thais exciting to me. Its been so long in coming and I'm ready to hold it my hand and have a thing, you know? I may even put that shot of Noah from day 1 in. Why not right? Talk about recent.
Yep.
alright here we are at day three and it was spent almost entirely at Epcot. Seriously. Epcot. It was really a good time and I think a child would get lost. Also today or yesterday I saw a kiddo playing with a toy plane and tried to imagine what he was seeing in his mind. I love that he was just in his world creating it on the fly. Really I don't ever want to grow up. At least I don't want to kill that part of me.
Anyway. Today was cold as shiteballs but made for some interesting shots so look for those soon. If I had my laptop I'd post some phone shots or some of the ones from my dad little digital--there are some real winners. But anyway I don't so my placeholder I think will be random shapes of epcot or random people.
Tampa tomorrow. Oooo maybe a shot of k-bone.
bonus, the image on the sign she is taking a photo of:
Day two come and gone. It feels odd to have shot film on the second day and thus not be able to actually post an image but whatever. I'm on "vacation" and only have my phone on me so this is as good as it'd get for a few days anyway. But I shot so I'll add a shot down the line when I get the roll back. Look for a photo of my sister wearing a ridiculous hat, or maybe random Orlando things.
So far so good.

so today i join the uncountable myriad of camera owners who have set forth to post / shoot a photo every day. to try to create a work worthwhile every single day. to follow in the footsteps of giants. to try to do with photographs what emily dickinson did with poems, what suzan-lori parks did with plays, what paleo did for songs. i'm not trying to go out every day and create the world's greatest photo and i'm certainly not trying to post an image for the sake of doing so. if i can achieve a small part of what david strackany managed over his year long project then i will be beyond elated. i will try to learn from his example, actually. i was lucky enough to witness his journey first hand and get direct insight from him as to how he saw his work and, in a small way, what it meant to him. in short, i will attempt to create something every day and let it stand by itself and not go back an re-edit or have doubts about it later. at the end of the year i hope to have something that ..well..i guess just is SOMETHING. something that has been consistent and hopefully improved over time.
to give myself structure, i will be giving myself a loose set of rules in which to operate.
1_ i must take a photo on any given day
2_ the photo i post for a given day does not necessarily have to be the one taken that day
3_ if the photo for the day is shot film, i can post a place-holder text entry that gives insight into what should be expected to appear once the film is returned and post-processed.
4_ the goal is to keep making photographs in a classic manner, but new ideas should not be written off. that is, i can experiment, so long as it isn't some horrid gimmick.
5_ if for some reason i have no access to the internet, i am not excused for a post for that day.
6_ if a day is missed (ie not photo is taken on that day (rule one, most important)) the project is over.
7_ self portraits are kind of a cop-out, but will pass. creative, abstract, or meta-portrait attempts are encouraged, but i guess not 100% required.
8_ enjoy the process, push yourself, don't be an asshole.
so there we go.
day one was me on my scooter driving to Bryan's house. here is bryan and ashley's kid Noah, whom i call Karl (after Karl Pilkington, as they look the same. long story.)
The studio has shifted around a bit over the last three years and I thought I'd give a glimpse into the people who are around in my direct area these days. We started quite humbly about three years ago all in one office in my loft downtown and as we've grown we have had Bryan move down the hall (seriously like 45 feet away), Jason has added a full-time assistant, and I have moved into a separate office from them and then added my friend Garrett to our place for a little company. Garrett, though not a photographer, does prove to be a wonderful person to have around on a number of levels, so we are very happy to have him around.
So...
Here is Jason "trying to look like" me, which to him apparently means having his hood up on his sweatshirt and looking a bit sour / grizzled.
Alan, who is Jason's full-time guy, is a super solid shooter himself and an all-around great person to have on hand at any given moment. In fact I just got back from having coffee with him, but that's sort of unimportant.
And Garrett. Ahhhh Garrett. Day-trader and life guru, he brings a lot of happiness to our 80 square feet of the studio. Come on...look at this guy...
Another new element to my days as late is a recent addition to the neighborhood called Urban Standard. The people there are as warm as the coffee (which, incidentally comes from local roasters Primavera Coffee Roasters)and the food is nothing short of outstanding (note: try the cupcakes) and they have a special extra bonus for me, as well. My friend Luke works there which means not only do I get to see new friends there (everyone who works there kicks ass) but I also get to be graced by his scottish glow.
Speaking of talented musicians in my life, I present Chip Kilpatrick. He shares the stage with Taylor in The Great Book of John and Wild Sweet Orange and remains one of the most skilled, entertaining drummers I know. His wife, Marti, is pregnant and I cannot wait to see what kind of kid they have. I mean that to say, I wonder what the personality and quirks of this child will be. It is sure to be original and weird--but the best kind of weird.
