We Three Beeks
I moved W3B stuff here because the old server was dumb and no one really comes here anyway.
We Three Beeks are Stephanie Masters, Cary Norton, and Jillian Woodruff (alphabetically).
This all started in 2010 when we watched a documentary about beekeeping entitled Queen Of The Sun. This documentary was shared with us by one of the guys who made the film, John Betz. The story goes: Cary took some 8mm footage of his granddad working his bees and shared it on Youtube. One day, Cary was randomly emailed by John to see if they could use some of the footage in a documentary about beekeeping. Cary agreed and a year or so later we received a copy of the dvd in the mail. Cary’s grandfather was a fourth generation beekeeper and kept bees for 40+ years. It was not until watching this documentary that we came to realization that we had to keep bees.
Here’s some of the footage from Cary’s Granddad working his bees, also featuring his sister, Nicole, with a Wonder Years wave.
After being compelled by the documentary, we discovered a beginner beekeeping course offered through the local beekeeping association. We became immersed in beekeeping information. Unfortunately, Cary’s grandfather became ill and passed away before he could see us with our first bees. We continue his legacy of beekeeping by using his hand-me-down equipment, owning two of his beehives, and naming a hive and a batch of honey after him.
It takes all three of us to make We Three Beeks happen. Cary is brute strength with a flexible schedule, Jill is a good steward of resources and a great notetaker, Stephanie is a master googler and worrywart. None of us could do this alone and there isn’t anyone we’d rather be doing this with. We started this hobby hoping to increase awareness about bees and continue the legacy of Cary’s granddad. We are now so consumed with beekeeping that it is kind of ridiculous. Anytime we are all together, the conversation will eventually lead to bees.
