The Great Book of John

My friends The Great Book of John recently put out an incredible record. I tend to over-sell them, so I'll leave this understated for now. I'll just say...it's great, and leave it at that.

Anyway, I shot a promotional image for them to coincide with the release of this lovely record.

I was at a local newsstand yesterday browsing magazines (research!) and ran across an article in Entrepreneur about Isis CEO Michael Abbott (the photo that ran in print is way more interesting, by the way) all about mobile commerce (which, by the way, Isis is about to make explode here in the US). Seeing the shot made me realize I never blogged about the shoot I had for them back at the end of 2010.

I hung out with Michael Abbott and Ryan Hughes (CMO of Isis, formerly of Verizon) back in November to make some formal and casual portraits of them for when they formally announced the company. I've only seen one pop up on the Business Wire, but then I'm not really plugged into that world.

Above are two outtakes from the shoot.

mental_floss has new shirts!

mental_floss, in addition to being a wonderfully strange and informative magazine, has a bunch of nerdy, quirky Tshirts. When they come out with new ones, I get to hang out with hot people models rocking the new goods. The current magazine issue had a little bonus section of their gift guide, which you'll see part of at the top of this post. Of course, I am biased, but they have lots of great junk to give to people you have to give junk to. Seriously. Nerdy, thought provoking, informative, funny. Really about anything you could need for a someone who likes using their brain. If you've got a geek who needs a gift, you've now got a great place to go. /blatantshilling

M+B Cancer Awareness Campaign — Pinkhangers.com

As mentioned before, M+B Hangers has some pretty incredible people on staff. Not the least of which is the man who runs the place, Milton. With the epic name Milton Malcolm Magnus, III, I expected someone intimidating before I met him. I mean doesn't that sound like so Norwegian rule guy, ready to smite anyone for no good reason? The great part is he's about as warm a man as I've met...no wonder everyone else at M+B is so great. It starts at the top.

And it's not just skin deep either. When I came on board to photograph everything for their promotion, they were already in full swing creating a special garment hanger aimed at cancer awareness. I was so pleased to be a part of this campaign, given my sister's history with breast cancer.

In many forms, the disease has touched M+B, and this awareness push highlighted four women survivors connected to the company. Representatives from the factory floor, admin office, and even a long-time customer came forward to have their portrait taken as a symbol of their resilience and positive attitude. Each posed with a special Pink Hanger with a single word printed on it that reflected some of the inspiration it takes to persevere.

They made these special hangers available to their customers and launched PinkHangers.com to tell the stories of these brave women.

Above is Cindy, a customer from El Paso, and Rachel, who works at the Leeds plant. Below is Milton, at a memorial bench in honor of his mother, also a cancer fighter.

Liz

This adorable lady is Liz and was one of the shots from today. She thought she looked a bit young but I really dig it.

Day 344

This shot of Tyree is a lot more realistic for his personality.
I can't believe its Day 343 on year two.

Here's another shot from the same project. For more info, check out See The Good.

Day 340

Ok let's catch up.

I've started shooting some portraits for a new Region's Bank internal blog that focuses on the positive impacts that their bank has by way of their entire corporation, employees, and customers.

The website is called See The Good and I shot two things specifically for it and they ALSO picked up a story on DIG and used my photos for a multimedia presentation. It's a damn good thing Sarah and I are both customers. Ha. Really, I'm just glad DIG is getting a tiny bit more press.

The above shot is one of my favorites from a story about a guy in Hiram, GA who helped out his community during a bad flood. Poke around the See The Good site to see the story. The story is a bit sombre so it was a nice challenge to create a portrait in which I could not rely on laughter to carry the shot. I guess I do that a lot? It did help develop a rapport with Anthony which lead to several successful portraits. That's always nice.
